Hi,

This is rather very sheaty situation I am in. well here it goes. Just built a fresh 1600 dp. swaped out some accessories from old leaky sp engine. everything is fine, started right up set the timing good to go. Except for a small leak around remote oil filter. No big deal. Drive home, park the car and leave it for a few days too cold to drive and was too dark to check on oil.

Tonight as I was about to drive over to a local meet up. go in to check oil level (after all there is a small leak) pop the deck lid, and a nice "surprise" is all over the tin's, intake manifold, generator stand, just about almost all over the upper part of the engine. Oil and lats of it! And it seem's like the same crap that was going on with the old single port. Worse part is I cannot remember if the oil cooler that I put on this dp was the old one from the single port which would make total sense. Same type of oil leak on the old one and back to square one on the new one.

So does this sound like I have a leaky oil cooler, or busted seal? Last time I tried to duke this out with the old one there didn't seem like there was oil right on the cooler. I would think that oil get's nicely blowing out by the fan and onto the top of the block and everywhere to the rear.

This really sux cojones, please help.

Anton

Are the rings lined up properly, do you have the crankcase breather hooked up to the stock ar cleaner and have you broken in the rings yet or does the engine has no miles on it ?

Yeah, I've ligned up piston rings top/bottom gaps opposite of each other.
breather is blocked off til I get the right oil filler, but there are some openinngs on the oil filler that would let it breave. Everything but the heads had miles on it.

I'm going to guess incorrect oil cooler seals. I made that mistake once, and it just pumped oil all over my engine tins.......out from the bottom of the shroud. Oh I was sooooo pissed!!!! Embarassed

I just had my leaky cooler replaced. Oil wasn't getting on the tins or generator stand, it was all under and behind the engine It left a huge puddle when parked for a day and a nice hole in my wallet to get fixed.

Your breather is blocked off? Are you blowing all your seals?

it's not completely blocked off. There are few openings in the filler there isn't really a way for this engine to build up that much of the presure to blow seals. If anything I wouldn't imagine non vented case blowing oil seals on the cooler.

Besides that wouldn't blow the seals. It's a stock 1600 not a huge stroker.

How about a leaking oil pressure switch? Might be spraying on the pulley and then thrown all over.
As for blowing seals, the rear crank seal (pulley end) is a labyrinth type which does not form an air tight seal. Any positive pressure would vent through there. If the breather was blocked it may well force oil out of that seal and would then be thrown everywhere. Is the back of the crank pulley wet with oil?

good point, that I will have to check. the thing that troubles me is that the oil leak looks the same as on old engine and the old one was vented... never the less I will double check that option as well....

Either way, I am pulling the engine as soon as I could unfortunatly that won't happen for a few weeks with holidays and all.

Well, believe it or not, a blocked filler vent WILL pump oil out of every opening, hole, or seam in the engine. The pistons (even stock 1600) pump a pretty good bit of air around inside the case. Then add in the engine heat which makes the air expand more. If there is no way to vent that crankcase pressure, something has to give... the valve cover seals, rear main seal, fuel pump stand, wherever.

Personally, I'd look into making sure that the oil filler tower vent is open.

it's confirmed. blocked Oil breather was the cause. Oil was coming out from behind the crank pulley.

Thanks!
