check out this Barn Door on EBay...it looks pretty nice to me. Not a perfect all orgininal one, but still very nice.

I wonder how much less the bus would have sold for if the shill bidder had been disqualified for what appears to be FRAUDULENT bid activity.

And that bus does look "puffy" to me.
Kinda rounded where it shouldn't be.

I have noticed that "vwdrvr66 (private)" has bid on quite a few splits lately. He is always bidding on the campers and deluxes I check out.

Top notch collection, I've seen the photos. I'd love to visit it in person someday.

yeah, he has some other nice buses and seems to be getting buses of all models. firebuses and ambulances are not difficult to find in low miles/nice original condition. what I consider to be top level is something that is very special for the specific model that it is. thus, the only firetrucks/ambulances that I would consider to be top level are either super early ones, or non-german ones. I have seen a few USA spec ambulances, but I have never seen a USA spec firetruck.

bear in mind that I am a total snob for special model buses. (virtually all of my collection are either coachbuilt or have a rare option or are rare models.) while Joe has an awesome collection and there are a lot of nice buses in it, only about half a dozen of the 40 or so buses that he has excite me. those which he has which I consider to be significant are:
'54 westfalia
'55 kombi walkthrough schoolbus
'59 westfalia
'63 deluxe doubledoor
'66 deluxe doubledoor
'67? highroof salesflap
he might have gotten some more since I toured his collection a year ago. but those are the cool ones that I saw at that time. I wish that I had more time this summer, so that I could have visited again and seen his new acquisitions.
