I have 2110 with Pertronix ignition with a MSD Blaster 2 coil. The coil gets hot really fast. It was on the engine when I got it. While running it was getting hot so today I added a ballast resistor and with a tempt gun I could see the coil got 115° within minutes of running. The engine hadn't even reached a 100° yet. I did notice that the bottom of the coil close to the snout was about 10° cooler than the top. Also the voltage going into the resistor is about 13.5 volts coming out is little over 10 volts. Any suggestions?

Wrong coil for the Ignitor. I´m almost surprised it has not fried the Ignitor.
You need a coil with 3 ohm resistance, or an Ignitor II module

Ok that was my suspicion. When the motor left it had the Flame Thrower coil. When I got it back it had the MSD Blaster 2. I assume if I replace that coil back with a Flame Thrower everything will be good?

Instructions will say.......
use a 3 ohm coil
or the coil and resistor needs to have three ohms total.

To know the ohms of the coil you have to use a meter, or, look up the part number. "Blaster 2" is not the part number.
There are many coils called that.

It seems the MSD is designed to run with a box but also gives directions for if ran with a electronic ignition to run a ballast resistor. The car did not have one so I added that today. No change. But if it's the wrong coil and you all think this Flame Thrower coil is the right one I'll order it. I mean no sense in trying to make something work.

And I believe this is the coil you all recommend
