I'm going to look at a very nice Zwitter but wanted a check list on the "correct parts" that are only on a Zwitter.
1)gas tank
2) speedo
3)ash tray
4)rear window trim
5)heart tail lights
6)hood handle
What about the heater knob?
Is that it?
What else should I look for?
What makes the speedo special on this car, I know it's something about the directional indicator lights.
Does anyone have the first and the last serial number on these cars? or does that exist?

Links below to some details:

Three particualrs on the Zwitter speed:

Turn signal indicators are two different, smaller arrows, rather then one larger double ended one.

Date stamp on back of speedo shoul dbe 9.52-3.53 (roughly, there may be a shift in dates relative to the actual zwitter months.)

The little peg that the needle rests on in the face is chromed, not black (who was asking about nit-picky???)

The headlight switch is different than an oval. It's rectangular with terminals on top.
Very early examples may have clothe wiring harness to headlights.
Early models do not have handle on ashtray, later ones do.

Zwitters will not have cloth wiring harnesses. Some may have black cloth loom over the harnesses, but the wire is PVC. VW went to all PVC wire by late '51.

I went and looked at the Zwitter. It was missing all of the correct parts. It did have the correct ashtray. It has no fenders, no semaphores, no tailights or headlights and the owner wants $8500.00. So I passed on it.

Sorry John, When I said Harness, I meant the outer sheathing that holds the wires together. Hense, Harness.

Offer him half, and that would be fair for both of you.

I was going to but decided against it. I would of paid that for a "OG" car with the original fenders etc, but with the fenders missing and not being able to match the paint, it's not worth it to me. I'll keep the split that I'm waiting for.
