|
|
Ok guys i have a leak coming from the tranny on my dune buggy. It is obviously leaking where the engine and tranny connect. Knowing this i replaced the seal that is around the shaft. Well i also put a new clutch and pressure plate on the engine, noting that i did not use an alignment tool. Well after replacing the seal and hooking everything back up, and feeling the tranny back up with some gear oil; the dang thing acts like it is worse. Is there a possibilty that there was an alignment with the clutch and the tranny shaft??? I did put the seal in correctly by the way. Help ASAP!!!! thanks guys |

You're supposed to lightly tap the new seal into place until it is just flush with the surface, not using an alignment tool wasn't the best idea though. Now that you say it is leaking worse I would guess that it was slightly off so that the engine still slid in but wasnt perfectly centered so when its running it rubs the imput shaft into the seal and wears it. Hope this helps. _________________ CasteSystms Performance

The imput shaft would have never slid into the gland nut bearing if it wasn't really close to being centered.
Even if it was off ever so slightly, it should have centered as soon as the clutch was depressed.
You have other problems, bad new seal or it's installation, burr on the shaft, overfilled with gear oil or even a crack in the case around the seal. _________________ Gary

It was mentioned about a bur on the shaft and the seal might have been bad, one thing I have noticed is the 30 plus years of that shaft running on the seal, will make a little groove and allow oil to pass if the seal is new or not. You can tray to postion another seal so it doea not run on the same exact spot as the last one. Its helps sometimes and sometimes not. Just something i have noticed in the 150 or so type one and two boxes I have done. _________________ If your looking for it, email me I might have it if not I can get it. |

^^^^ What they said, and also make sure your tranny vent is clear. Up top at the front can't remember exactly where. The oil heats up and expands while you drive, the air it displaces has to go somewhere and usually it takes oil with it.
