Hi all, have a tought question, i have a 1967 bug with a 1600 cc motor, the problem i have is i cant remove the generator, because the intake is in the way, and i cant remove to intake without removing the generator. Would i have to pull the motor, or is there a way to remove the heater housing.
Thanks for any assistance

Sounds like it's time to spend some time with the Bentley or at least the Muir book...
Are you maybe trying to remove the generator with the stand still attached?
You shouldn't have to mess with the intake, but the generator and fan housing do come out as a unit. Loosen the strap that holds the generator to it's stand and slide it out of the way. Then remove the 2 sheet metal screws on either side of fan housing and the thermostat underneath the car (if you have one). The fan housing will just lift straight up with the generator attached, though you don't have much room with a bug, I believe you have to remove the decklid.
Then you can intall your new generator on the fan shroud and put it back in. I would not try all this without one of the previously mentioned books in hand. |
