This seems to be a never ending story. No one I've talked with so far have either wanted or dared to say any colour code for the dashpods..

I guess this knowledge would be helpful to quite a lot of split folks... Wink

Plain and simple, there isn't one. Rustoleum "Almond" color is a dead on match, but only a rattle can spray paint, Might not be available in Europe....?

Yes, I have come to the same conclusion. Wink

I just would wish that all of you that have done the paintjob of the pods would tell what you have used. I mean nothing is really wrong.. Very Happy

Rustoleum doesn't ring a bell for me.. Crying or Very sad

Drop Jim Bremer an e-mail ([email protected]). I think he had the paint mixed and has the formula.

Your local Home Depot, Walmart, or Lowes usually has any one of these brands that are suitable:

1. Painters Touch brand spray can enamel - by Rustoleum - color: "Navaho White". The reason why you want this brand first if you can locate it is that it produces professional results and dries much quicker than the Rustoleum main brand "Almond". The "Navaho" color I find is closer to a truer "Ivory" color than the "Almond". The key with this enamel is that while its a spray on enamel, it can handle being polished out with an orbital buffer producing a professional polished appearance. About $3 a can, so its even less costly than the Rustoleum main brand.

2. VHT Quick Coat spray can acrylic enamel - by VHT - color "Navaho White". Same shade as the above, lays on a little nicer, polishes out a little nicer, but about $8 a can, can be found at higher end car parts places that sell brands like Dupli-color. Also think you can order it online at Eastwood.

3. Krylon spray can enamel - Propane Tank brand #1507 - Thats the specific brand, only one color, and an excellent heavy duty enamel, produces a very nice creamy Ivory color, slightly lighter than Navaho White, polishes out very nicely, touches up nicely as well should you scrath or chip the paint later on. Krylon is the best brand for being able to make touchups that will polish out without showing.

NOTE - Do not use "Americas Finest" brand by Rustoleum, although its a $2 spray can enamel, this is Rustoleums worst paint, will spray on ok, but will not polish out at all, and its only available in Almond, its ok though for things like seat frames since it produces a semi-gloss at best gloss, which is an authentic finish for the seat frame. Dries quick, ok for touch up.

Also, while Krylon also produces an "Ivory", its too light for dash pods, it can be used however if desired for a lighter look. Krylon's Almond is also too dark compared to the Painter's Touch Rustoleum brand. Krylon sadly just discontinued its "Antique White", which was the very BEST solution that I used to use, it was spot on for just about any original paint samples I could find, and I tested alot. Occassionally you can find cans or a case of this color, but even spray cans have a shelf life too, so in about a year you won't want to use this color even if you can find it. Krylon brand was the most forgiveable for so-so surface prep, seldomed fish eyed, excellent for the home enthusiast.

But, the Painter's Touch brand, I believe was offered by Rustoleum to compete with Krylon since its very close in how they perform. The only thing to note, like with all Rustoleum brands, you must pay more attention to surface prep than what you had to do with Krylon, surfaces must be clean as possible before spraying, and for added safety it pays to lay down a layer of their primer first, that way you avoid issues.

Good luck, and remember even though its a spray can, don't forget its still spray paint, its still dangerous to inhale any of the associative airborne propellant and paint, so PLEASE wear a good spray mask!!!!!! Good means not that cheap paper thing, I mean the one 3M mask with the replaceable left and right cartridges, a wise $30 investment.

Go and find a True Value and buy the XO RUST Almond and it's about as close as you can get. I have restored dash pods from Zarwerks and I painted my glove box doors with XO RUST.
