I've got a manx want to be with a 1776. It will see at bit of off road time so I finally bought a single 40 IDF carb set up from EMPI, and a Compu-Fire ignition system. Right now I have the 009 Dist to work with the system. Last time I worked on VW's was the 70's. Now it looks like the vac advance dist is back in favor. Would it be worth the expense to change out my distributor? And if so what's the best that will work with this Compu-Fire system? Also my end castings don't have a vac take off, where would it pull vacuum from? Thanks |

The 009 worked well in the 70's, and guess what? It still does! It may not be the best, but with some patience and skill you can be happy with it.
Personally I don't think it's worth the expense - I'd stick with the 009, especially if you've already bought the Compufire. The SVDA may work better, but you will have to pull vacuum from right under the throttle plates of the carburetor, not from the manifold. If you have a newer IDF it may already have a vacuum port, if not it isn't a modification I'd try at home. _________________ Richard Sedoris - VW Performance & Machine - Youngstown, OH
