I was having some serious fogging issues in my bug with the most recent set of storms. The windows were not only fogging up inside, but the fog was leaving a weird residue on the windows. My guess is that this is due to the PO being a heavy smoker who had a large dog in the car too.

This is the first winter I've had the bug and despite having used windex on the interiors of the windows, this heavy residue kept coming back. By this point it was getting even worse because I had to drive with the wing windows open and now the carpet was wet from the heavy rain! I was driving with a towel in my lap, having to wipe the windows about every 60 seconds.

I stopped in at K-Mart and picked up Rainex wipes with anti-fog treatment for interior windows. Wow! What a difference this made! It took two applications to remove the residue completely, but I did it right there in the parking lot and drove home afterwards-windows up and heater on! Not a bit of fog!! I was really impressed.

Now I gotta get those floormats dry!!

I have to try this out!

How long does the RainX stay effective? It would be nice to roll up the windows when I turn on the heat during the Winter months. Kind of defeats the purpose otherwise... Smile

I've had it last well over a week at a time. I just buy it in the bottle. I've found that if you touch it or wipe it while moist the window will fog up there! Cool stuff ! My wife likes it on the bathroom mirror Laughing

When it is dry it is a little hazy, but that is offset by it's damp use!
Is that second lie: I will do what you say? Or is it about hate!

I was just telling Box yesterday my windows fogged so bad I had to keep wiping them down at least one a minute. Makes it hard to drive the fwy like that. And my rear window was terrible. I hated driving with my windows open. So Rain-X works? Great , I have a bottle at home to try.

Yeah there are two types of Rainex, anti-fog for the interior and one for the exterior that is supposed to make the rain bead up and run off better. I haven't tried the exterior yet.

Tonight is the second day since I put on the Rainex. It's working great so far, I just touched it up in a couple of little spots. I'm keeping the wipes right there within reach in case I need 'em. When I got the bug from Hubby today it looks like he drove with the windows open anyway... my floorboards are soaked too! Rolling Eyes

Northstate Trev,
Do these taillights look familiar?!!

Yup that's right, my bug's taillights are from a '65 Impala, courtesy of the previous owner.

I've been using the Rain-X (windshield) on my windows for many years, rarely ever have to use wipers. Works awesome.

My buddies and I went offroading and my friend put some on his ranger and then my other friend's kombi then on my baja bug. He left it on my fender then I said that smells pretty flamable I should have keep my mouth shut Rolling Eyes ! He then takes his lighter and lights it and let me tell you with years of playing with fire and other flamable materials I'd never seen anything light up that fast and burn that fast Shocked so kids don't try this at home, hell it as bad as gun cotton!

Rainx is awesome. I've used the exterior stuff on everything, motorcycles, cars, boats and airplanes. Amazing stuff. Don't like it on plexiglass windows because of the haze but on glass it can't be beat. I don't have operating wipers on my buggy buy I keep rainx on both sides of the glass (no top either) and I've never had a problem. I haven't been in a major rain storm but I have been caught a couple of times.

The anit fog works great too but they will both haze up on you after a few days. If you clean your glas once every 2 weeks or so, you really won't have a problem.

Rainx also make a windshield washer formula that works ok. Not as good as the real stuff though but good enough for when you get caught in a storm. It's a orange colored stuff and it will stain your resivour but it works.

I too use Rain-X constantly since my wipers haven't worked for 5 years now! Surprised Never had any issues whatsoever. Shame on you One trick thing I do since they don't work is to "set" them both pointing out \ /, rather than both pointing in the same direction \ \. This way the water just flies right off the windsheilds! Razz

Will have to try the anti fog one. Think

One trick to get the "smoke" off your windshield is to use rubbing alcohol on a paper towel then follow that up with a normal glass cleaner. I keep rubbing with the alcohol until it dries. It may take a few times if the haze is thick, but it will take the smokers haze off the window.

Cool taillights Claire, I would've never guesed! I also have to sing the praises of RainX for the outside of the windsheild, It works even better on a raked windshield. Corvette, Sebring etc.
