I have an early 911 tach that I would love to use in my beetle. Anyone know if/ where the tachs can be recalibrated to be used on a 4cyl?

I bet gaugeguys.com could modify it for under $100 but for that much you could probably find a decent 914 or 912 tach.

How early is it? Looking at the face up under the trim ring there should be a part number starting with 901. Early gauges are getting spendy so you might be better off flipping that and buying another designed for a 4 cylinder.

The 911 tach reads to 8k rpm. Other than the one for a Carrera 4 cam engine, there is no Porsche 4 cyl tach that reads beyond 7k.
This is why you would want to recalibrate a 6 cyl 911 tach.

A 911/912 tach is cable fed not inductive. The number of cylinders or rev limit don't matter only the RPMs of the cable input.
