Hi there,
I posted at the gearbox category but i was suggested that here could have more luck with someone knowing and replying so i repost.
I am gathering parts for putting a diff lock mechanism on my 2wd T3. I am no in a hurry to do this and since i am a hobby lathe machinist, i figured to try out and copy the differential lock shaft and the sleeve for the differential lock actuator shaft. A friend of mine has these parts somewhere, but it will take a while to reach them out. So at some point i can have them at my workshop but till then it would be nice for me if i could have the outer dimensions of these parts, in order to order the rods. So my question is, does anyone have these parts and would like to measure them and share the results? Or are they maybe somewhere online already documented?
Here are pictures of the parts i refer to. I know there are two different length shafts. Whichever you have availiable would be helpfull, since as it seems i could install either one, but pairing it with the correct mounting plate.
So the dimensions i would like to have are:
OD (maximum outer diameter) of the shaft and sleeve
L (length) of the shaft and sleeve
and ID (inner diameter) of the sleeve
any help appreciated |

Just looked up the long shaft at Van Cafe and Wow...$89.00!
The Sleeve is $68.00.
I can see why you want to make your own, but have ya got $42.95?

yep! I ve already ordered this part. It will arrive soon.
The only things i don't have for the basic conversion are this shaft, the sleeve and the spring. After this it will be if i decide to make any other upgrades or maintenance since the gearbox will come down... |

Switch the Starter to the shorter version, the Bosch SR0425X.
Makes it easier to remove it with the Dif-Lock actuator still mounted in place.
The original starter is too long and cannot slide forward easily for the gear to clear the flywheel/starter opening. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Need to run a starter adapter for that.
The longer style actuator shaft keeps the roll pin out of the actuator bushing when locked. This is good as you don't to worry about having the roll pin precisely centered in the shaft to keep from scraping the bushing and not engaging, probably keeps dust/debris from contaminating it as well. |
