I just spent the whole day, today, polishing the lips on my rims. I wish I saw your link yesterday. Great info!!!
I used my air powered die grinder with canvas wheels and rouge I got from www.eastwood.com. I didnt know T/A truckstops carried this stuff. Thats good to know.
I bought my rims used. They were polished before but they were not taken care of. The oxidation/disk brake comtamination was hard to get out. I tried starting with 600gt paper but that didnt get it. 400 worked but 320 was better. I followed with 1000 but that was a waist of time.
I used my buffer and 1200 cutting cream. then I switched to some polishing cream (I got from a car show) w/polishing pad. It all came out well. Sorry no pics.
If anyone is thinking of doing this, Jowls way is cheaper. I had 95% of the stuff I needed laying around already.
Thanks Jowls, good info.

Weekly polishing is pretty much the easiest way. Just use mothers. If you keep up on them you wont use the wheel again.
There is another option. Rain-x. Polish the wheels and then cover them with rain-x. Wipe off. It will dull the rims down a little...but will keep them shiny alot longer. _________________ The honey-do list put my project on hold....... |
