I'm wondering what I should do with this car and will leave it sitting out there for everyone to part out or restore in their emails. I have no title and the original fuel injection parts were taken off prior to the sale. The engine turns over but the transmission is probably worth more than anything...but don't know of it's condition. I was thinking of putting on a van carb and getting it going...also a title...has anyone applied for a bill of sale through another state and used that to get a title? I know of getting a bonded title through my home state but that takes up to three years I've been told. Any comments you have.

You don't say what year it is or what size motor??
Find a set of dual 40 Webbers or Dells to put on the motor as single carbs run very poorly. or locate a complete FI set up to reinstall.
Check out the 914club.com sitefor complete info on the 914, used parts, where to buy parts etc.

It's a '74 with a 2.0 4 cylinder. I joined the 914 club. Thanks.

You can get a title through one of those Alabama title companies. The bad news is that they charge extra for "exotic" cars, and believe it or not, they consider all Porsches "exotic"
The good news is that it's a great car, handles like a big go-kart and fairly quick with the 2L mojo.

What state are you in? I have had success (Indiana) by doing a title search. If anything comes up then I get a power of attorney from them and that makes everything simple. If nothing shows up on the search then a bill of sale will do. Indiana drops cars that haven't been registered within 10 years.
Of course the DMV looks down there nose at you but everything is legal & legit so they will process you. _________________ Beauty is in the eye of the key holder ... |

Thanks for the replies. I'm not too old to know that Dells means Dellorto carburetors. And about the title....I'm in Minnesota....so the rust word is an issue..that's why I offered the car up for sacrifice...to be parted or repaired. I am the only one in a large family that owns or has ever owned a Porsche...even though it is or was termed the VW/Porsche...it's still a great little car. Can't wait to be using that close ratio transmission at speed....but still...I'm realistic. The title search is paramount....but the car is fairly complete and needs only a few lenses and a nose....some former plastic surgeon tried to graft a one piece fiberglass retrofit of some kind. I'd go gennie with it. Anyway, thanks for the replies and keep 'em coming. I really do need to get some pics on the forum.

Before you get out the sawzall, Brad Mayeur makes a stiffening kit for the chassis which can help if it isn't too far gone and restoration-design.com makes everything else.
I have not had to get a title via the agencies but I have heard good things about http://www.its-titles.com

About the stiffening kit to beef up the 914 frame...the person you mentioned. How would I contact him or does he have a link to click on?

Hey, thanks. Looks great. I know it takes time for research and developement and the average guy thinks he can knock of some professional looking panels for half that price...but why? Make your money doing something you're good at, and pay the price. Thanks again.
