The cold start valve on my FI bus has the wrong style connection, it must be for D-jet. The mating original connector on the harness was damaged so I replaced it wit a new L-jet connector. Now I see that it was probably intentially modified in order to fit the cold start injector better. Can I modifiy the CSV connector to better fit the harness? I'd rather modify the nonconforming part than modify the harness. I'm hoping Ray Greenwood sees this _________________ Dirk

I am confused - all Buses came with L-Jet. So yeah the connectors should be L-Jet type. _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

Ah ha! Sneak edit!
Some Type 4 cars and 914s came with D-Jet. So it looks like maybe somebody swapped in a D-Jet CSV instead of the correct one.
If it were me I would probably try to source a proper L-Jet CSV but I don't know how hard that is these days. _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

SJ: you caught me, I knew what I was thinking but typed the wrong one!
I'm with you but the valves are NLA and I'm leery of an unknown used one if I can even find one. _________________ Dirk

I just finished swapping carbs for FI (with lots of help from Asiab3!). I found all the injectors and CSV thru the Samba classified, then sent them to WitchHunter for rebuild and testing. They all worked great. However, since I live in a warmer climate, I chose to bypass the CSV due to the numerous concerns about fuel leaks from them and ignition from its proximity to the distributor.
While you may find a rusty, crusty old CSV in the classifieds, you should be able to get it working correctly by sending it to WitchHunter. You may also consider sending all your others in at the same time. It can't hoit! _________________ -Kent-

found them in classified too. But the big thread on CSV has them being replaced with a new rabbit one still available only difference being the jet extends into the chamber.-- Like Kent, I'm probably just going with out and by pass the CSV with solid FI rated hose. _________________ some days I get up and just sit and think. In Arizona you can probably largely get away without it since it should only come into play at ambient temps below ~50 degrees F. Though the Rabbit CSV sounds like a good option. I would doubt it would matter too much that the jet extends into the chamber a bit. _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

Actually I think the temperature set point for the TTS is something like 110°F, though you could still probably get the engine to start without a CSV on warmer days.
To the OP, just make an adapter harness so you don't need to either change out the valve or modify the harness. |

Considering the tubing inside the plenum for the EGR system, the CSV jet sticking in a bit farther shouldn't affect anything. |
