Count me in! Obviously I would have to see the cost but I would love a "retro" style script for "2l fuel injection" or "Type IV". It would add a nice touch to my bus! Cool

casey,

there are no fonts. the artwork will have to be drawn by hand. on a computer of course, but it is a drawing exercise, not typesetting. the fonts don't exist.

i can help with these. i would love to see some samples/images of other types of script badges and such. yes i can search myself, but this will give a good idea of what others are thinking. this will also give a great repository of badge images.

I want my script to read "IV-play~94mm bore" Wink If you can't get that then Iron Maiden will work just as well.

I drafted alot of the letters this weekend and will keep everyone posted on the cost when I get further into it. Anyone have any fonts that are similar even. What are repro companies using for the font? Has to be something out there close to the original. Embarassed

Well after searching long and hard for the font I realized that it is not available anywhere, well at least the full alphabet and numbers! I have since drafted the font in cad letter by letter to match the original font exactly. I drafted everything in rhinoceros so that the emblems are ready to be sent to a water jet. If anyone has access to a waterjet let me know! You will surely get a free badge or two of your choice. I would like to eventually get everyones requests (what you want the badge to say)so i can build the badges in cad and connect all of the letters so they are a solid script like the originals.

Some ones that I have currently assembled in Rhino are:

Westfalia, Type IV, Camper, 2.0, vw, transporter, type 2. I of course have modeled the original volkswagen and fuel injection scripts as well. they are an exact match and I have printed and measured the new vs the old and they are the same size, spacing, width. Hopefully this will be the start of us finally having our badges say what we want on the back of our busses!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

How about one that just says "BUS" on it. I'd like a "Fuel Injected Type IV" badge Of coarse I'd need to know a price first but I'd probably buy both if they are not overly expensive.

Geno Very Happy

Geno the bus is looking great man! You have come along way! Once I can get an idea of what it will cost per emblem I will let you guys know a price. I am not looking to make a huge profit. I want them to be affordable so I can place a large order.

Mounting will be by owners preference. On mine I used a 3m emblem adhesive and it has not budged. If you ever need to remove the badge I am not sure what the adhesive will do to the paint underneath. Having the nipples mounted on the back will add another process to the the manufacturing and will drive cost up. I honestly would rather glue it to the body then drill holes !

I have the finished waterjet file that I will post tonight next to an original to show the quality! Later in the weak i will have a protype cut in plastic that I will spray chrome. At work I have a laser machine that may prove to be the best solution. If the emblems are plastic and painted they will be lighter and easier to mount to the vehicle! I will post the physical prototype as soon as possible!

This sounds like a really cool idea.
All I can think of right now that I would want is one for the year, and have one ready for when I take the plunge and get a Camper Special.

Casey.. I love the glue idea.. I didn't want to have to poke holes in the back! Lighter plastic is good too.

Yeah my brain started working today and I realized I could use the laser machine that we use for are architectural models. I will make a test later this week if time permits. The only possible probelm I see with using the laser is the time it will take to cut the low spots of the emblem, by low spots I mean the bars that connect the letters together that make the emblem one piece. If you look at one of the existing scripts you will notice that the letters are about 1/8" high and the bars that connect the letters are about 1/16" high. The laser will cut the letters no problem but it will have to etch the low spots and that may take a good amount of time as it is has to burn the material away. We will see! This could be a great solution or a very time consuming result. I am sure the laser machine is capable of doing it, just how quick I am not sure!
