What kind of glue should I use between the gasket and the cover? As per Mr Muire's book, I'll use a thin layer of grease between the gasket and the head.

No glue, no greases. Only non-curing sealants.

I use silicone sealer between the gasket and cover. Nothing between the gasket and head.

I apply a small bead of the blue permatex to the cover side and allow it to warm in the sun. Once dry, I put it on and can take it off a time or two without getting new gaskets. Those bailing wires can be tricky some times, allowing the gasket to move if you're not very careful.

I bought a set of reuseable silicone Gaskets from real gaskets, no sealer and they don't leak, every time! They weren't very expensive either
I Love 'em!
