I decided to work on the area under the battery today and give it a good cleaning and anti-rust coating. While removing the battery I noticed that the cable marked neg(-) was RED and the cable marked Pos(+) was black. I thought it was odd but removed the battery and spent the next couple of hours cleaning/coating the compartment.
Guess what I did when I stuck the battery back in.. Yeah I put the RED on pos(+) and Black on neg(-). The car would turn over but I got no fuel pump noise. I checked the cables for tightness and then I realized they were backwards... I switched the cables back to the way they were prior to me removing them and it started right up.
Q: Do you think I fried anything having the cables backwards??? ??
and yes I have fixed the cables so that this wont happen again. geesh _________________ Life is a web woven by necessity and chance.

If it started up, then it doesn't appear that there's a problem. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

The FI control unit has a protection diode in it. If the FI engine runs, then you are OK there. You might have hurt the radio, or the T/S flasher, but I think that is about it. _________________ Society is like stew. My only concern would be the polarization of the generator. I'll let someone more knowledgeable speak about that.
I would recommend you put some masking tape on the battery cables and use a permanent marker to label them so you won't do it again. Better yet, replace the cables with the appropriate color cables If anything, replace the ground cable with a braided one. That's more unmistakeable and will work equal to or better than a cable _________________ Toby http://www.aircoolednut.com/

If the generator light is out now, he didn't hurt it. If the engine didn't start with the reversed polarity, the generator never got power applied to effect the polarity. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

You wanted a new stereo anyway. That is the sub-concious reason you did it. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey
