The final drive ratio may be different.
One of my Without Guesswork books says that the 66 T-1 is 4.375 and the 1600 T-3 is 4.125. This is a book for 60-70.
The other says they are both 4.125. This is a book for 71-72
I have a 70's book that shows, that it could possible have a 4.43 ratio, in a T-1/T-2 Which was what was refered to as the "mountain gear".
So don't be surprised if you put a T-1 trans in your T-3, and you lose top end speed. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

I actually put a T1 transaxle in a '67 T3 years ago, and it really cut the top speed. It was a lot of work for such a disappointing result. And... I figured it would be OK because of "Without Guesswork!!!" I took the word of the book over the word of a German VW parts manager. Stupid me.
I wouldn't if I were you. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.
