I have a set of Porsche chrome wheels (from a 912) mounted on my SC. The fronts fit just fine, since I have the 944 disc brakes on it. The rears are mounted with wheel adapters; however, I cannot get the hubcaps on. I have measured and it looks like I will have to grind off about 1/4" - 1/2" of the axle stub and nut to get them to fit. Anyone have a better suggestion? If I do grind them down, I won't be able to use the cotter pin anymore. I can't use wheel spacers, because with the adapters there is only about 1/4" of clearance between the tire and fender lip. _________________ OGST

| I have the same problem with my Phone Dials on the rear. I just go without the caps until I get the straight axle in. I know this doesn't help, but I couldn't find a better way on my bus and I too have only a quarter of and inch of space in the fender. I run Porsche turbo brakes in the front and adapters on the rear right now. |

I noticed that the bus really "needs" the adapters in the rear, because the porsche brakes up front push the wheels out about 1.5" on each side.
Ghetto-style it is then, for now...blacked-out centers and chrome lugs until I fix it up right (straight-axle + narrowed beam + time to do it = $$$) _________________ OGST

I also just put in a 4 inch narrowed beam and most of the wheel offset is to the rear with these wheels. I am not sure what the offset is though. 16x7 all the way around.

1.5" out either side = 3" narrowed beam. |

if you cut 1/4 off you should still be about to use the cotter pins.
oh and any idea that means you cant use your cotter pins is NOT even an option. _________________ flossin, tossin, dippin, and trippin |

Wurd. I am very good with mechanical stuff and I generally don't have to ask questions but when it comes to grinding off important shit I like to err on the side of caution. _________________ OGST

Cotter pin saved my bacon when I spun that left rear brake drum during OCTO.

Just cut the fender wells out!
J/K. I havn't thought about it with bus drums, but could you have the drums drilled 5x130 and 14mm studs pressed in?
or would the snout be to fat for that tight of a bolt pattern? |

Hey Bubs, this might be your answer. you Have a str8 axle setup, right.
http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C23%2D501%2D310
I know with my set up this would work and is what I would use If I did not get the rear disks with the fronts. the only conflict that I can see with these you might need some porsche style spacers (not adapters) to set things right perfect.
performance parts has some listed from 7mm-65mm H&R made in germany. I know I have seen others also. |

That would make the problem worse, I would have to do even more grinding.
And no, I do not have a straight axle in the bus, it is still stock. _________________ OGST

What you need is a thicker adapter (5x205 -> 5x130 wright?), and then
you must have the wheelcenters re-positioned to you're rims.
in other words, change the et size off you're rear wheels .. i think it's the
only option to mount you're hupcaps, without grinding. |
