I am looking at a 1975 riviera that is in beautiful condition. The only problem is the 1.8FI is shot in not worth the time and effort ot fix shot. Plus i am a big pro diesel guy. I want to know if anyone knows if a 1.6 VW diesel from a rabbit will fit in the bus? |

I think it can, and has been done. One of the bigger issues is figureing out where to put the radiator. If you haven't already, go to http://www.kennedyeng.com/ They make adapter plates and engine swap kits for all sorts of different engines into VW's. Also check out http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewforum.php?f=19 It's a discussion group specifically for engine swaps in volkswagens. |

and check: www.aussieveedubbers.com That's where you'll probably find the largest discussion on radiator installations, etc. _________________ '79 Westy - project pumpkin

If you do this be ready to go slow. Those 1.6 diesels are super gutless, even compared to the stock aircooled engines. My uncle let me drive his diesel vanagon. I couldn't believe how slow it was.
Add to this the fact that your bus is not geared for the diesel and you just might have kids on their bikes leaving you behind when the light turns green.
One of the newer TDI engines might make a better candidate; powerfull, efficient and quiet, but also more complicated and probably harder to find a cheap, complete setup. |
