Hi. Iam not getting fuel to my filter and carb. Iam leaking alittle fuel from my pump but don't know where. Is it the diaphram inside or do you think the whole unit is shot. It is a t3 motor setup like a beetle. It has a funky pump on it. Please help. Thanks. Craig. _________________ ’73 Beetle - My first car, owned 26+ yrs

are you getting fuel to the pump?
pull off the inlet to the pump and see if fuel comes out.
It doesn't? do you have gas in the tank? a clogged fuel line? dirty fuel sock filter?
Fuel does come out? okay.. put the line back on.
pull the fuel outlet line off the pump. Turn the engine round by hand, or have a friend crank the starter for just a couple seconds. Fuel comes out? good.
If not, it's your pump. What's the 'funky' thing about it? _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Hi clara. I assume gas is going to the pump because gas is leaking from it somewhere. But absolutely no gas is coming out of it to the filter. Its not a regular beetle pump that looks like a mushroom head. It must be a T3 pump. _________________ ’73 Beetle - My first car, owned 26+ yrs

Check, don't assume.
A pic would help. There are different styles of pumps.
New 40hp/1600 fuel pumps are cheap (~ $20).
If yours is rebuildable, you can also go that route, WW sells rebuild kits.
Is this something that just started happening, or is it on a bus that sat for a while? _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Hi. I will check it. Also the motor has been sitting for awhile and was very dry. Here is what my pump looks like. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/pix/medium/1136408.jpg _________________ ’73 Beetle - My first car, owned 26+ yrs

That looks normal... it is an older fuel pump.
It is the rebuildable kind... you can unscrew all the screws and take the top off the base. I prefer that kind to the newer ones.
the bolt facing the camera is the cover for the 'fuel screen'. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |
