|
|
I have conflicting references as to the correct rim color for a 1959 Diamond Grey Bug. Some say Shetland Grey (L329) and others say Moss Green (L244). I've seen more sources that say green than grey but I'd like to be correct as I'm about ready to paint them.
Thanks,
Scott |

The JT Garwood book says Stetland Gray. The only cars I'm seeing in his charts that have Moss Green on the wheels were convertibles whose main body paint was Bamboo Green. That's the only one listed for that Moss Green from 1957-1960.

Yes, this is my quandry - Garwood is the only source I have that says Shetland Grey. Both Wolfsburg West and Bob Wilson say Moss Green. WW claims to only source their information from factory information so that is the direciton I'm leaning. |

Got it cleared up by the folks at vwcarofthecentury.com - the rim is Moss Green.
Scott
"The original color of the outer rim was L244 Moss Green; the inner hub was L87 Pearl White;L329 Shetland Gray was an error in the old book that was corrected in the new version." |

Are they printing a new edition, or is it only still available as an E-book? I got my hard copies back in the early 90s.

Still an ebook. Here's an excerpt from another email on that topic:
"I do not know why the Virtual Vault folks do not make their security system work with Macs. We originally produced the E-Books in the PDF system for cross platform compatibility and originally offered them in CD form. They worked well but thieves were waiting in the wings; we had to find a secure method of distribution or lose everything. Adobe's Content Server, designed to secure CDs, proved to be faulty and the product was withdrawn from the market by Adobe. When a secure CD system appears, we will, again, distribute our Books on CD. Right now, the Virtual Vault is the only way to distribute and secure PDF based E-Books." |

Here's one of the finished wheels with L244 Moss Green rims.
