I want to convert my 68 Beetles front apron and hood to an older model. I have the older front fenders and the older bumpers with over riders and I would like to complete the look.
I want to know what year hoods would fit my bug after I change the apron. I have heard that some folks have had issues when using the wrong year of front hood in this conversion so I'm looking for someone who knows what years will work for the hood and apron best on my 68.

If there is any articles out there please let me know as well. Cheers,

Mark

I asked this same thing but i think on shoptalkforums. Sounded like alot more work then it was worth although, I THINK creativecarcraft makes old style fiberglass fenders that fit right on to a 68+ bug. According to thier description. I emailed to ask but have yet to get a reply back.

The older stock fenders fit fine. I have bolted them on and no real issue. They are ever so slightly shorter. Some add bondo or un-role the bottom front lip of the fender apparently. But it is very close, with a new apron that should take care of the problem.
I have done the rear apron with no troubles. The rear looks great so it's onto the front.

Thanks for the reply.

Cheers,

Mark

Thats kinda what I figured as well...everyone over there made it sound like it was really crazy to do...might have something to do with purist not liking the idea of converting newer to older i guess. Let me know what you find out because this is actually what I have been wanting to do

You betcha ,always happy to share any info I get.

Yes I have come across a more purist appraoch at times as well and I respect that. On this car it had to have these areas replaced and it's my car so I get to do what I want. The car will be taken from a junker to a show car when I'm done so another bug back to life is a good thing I figure.

Cheers,

Mark

Well mine are in perfectly good condition (flame retard suit strapped on) but I still intend to change it. It's not like it can't be reversed anyway by another owner if I DID sell it. In the mean time like you said, it's my car to do with as I want so I will Smile
