AMC Heads - Still have crap valves?

Been searching this topic and cannot determine if the valve issues have been corrected on AMC Heads for AC Vanagon?

Everything I read said that the castings are good and the valves are crap.

Still true?

I just bought a set of AMC heads. My mechanic still recommends doing the valves.
