Hi there, I have a baja with a mild 1600 DP engine, I was wanting to fit the type III cooling tins under the cylinders but reading up on this I am wondering if its a good idea...
The thing is the only good data of its effect seems to be on bugs with the rear apron etc.
Now I was thinking that without all of the original tin these might be a good idea , I thought that the way the tin forces the air all the way around the cylinder and out the bottom made sense when you don't have the heater boxes to bolt your j-plates to.
Also in stationary diesel designs this is common so I thought for low-speed crawling through the bush it would be a plus.
So here I am asking the guys who should know and hopefully I won't get told to get a DTM or ask Jake, I've read those threads and I live half a world away, just the shipping makes me go cold.
Cheers

Get a DTM
Nahh bud , you got reason to add this piece of tin???? I would be more tempted to get those pushrod protectors, do you run a CHT gauge and if so what does it read????? _________________ a Scot in Norfolk, what more can go wrong,

They definitley help cool a bit better but they are a PITA because they don't bolt up like stock type 1. You will have to wire up the ends and be sure that they don't rub on the pushrod tubes.
Some folks swear by them some swear at them. Forget changing your mind and going back to a thermostat later.
That decision is best made durring an overhaul. _________________ 64 custom Ghia, 66 Bug, Sandrail, Barrien tub |

Thanks guys,
I am busy rebuilding my engine right now thats why I'm relooking at the cooling.
I think I'll try the type three tins and see what happens.
It should be possible fabricate some bits and bobs to screw it onto the type one tins.
I have a skid plate that will protect my pushrod tubes also I'm not that convinced that pushrod protectors would flow that well.
Cheers
