Correction
This is the ship the USS The Sullivan's that picked up Bruce Meyers when he was stranded at Sea in the US Navy , when I told Bruce I was from Buffalo NY he told me the story that the USS The Sullivan's was the ship that picked him up lost at sea. The USS the Sullivan's which is dry docked at our Navel park ,
I parked my Manx and snapped some Photos.
Well after talking to Winnie she told me the name of the ship, which is right next to the Little rock.
So i went and re-took some photo's and had to sneak back with my Manx into the park , after being asked if I had permission ,which I didn't , So I fibbed!
I got some of the right Ship , this was used for many rescues a during world War 2 ,
Well I am going to get some of the pictures framed and give them to Bruce to hang in his office

Bruce was a US Navy sailor on the carrier Bunker Hill when it was hit by two Kamikazes within 30 seconds of each other. The crew was ordered to abandon ship. Bruce was in the water for several hours and as a former lifeguard, when he found a panicking and badly burned sailor he took off his own life jacket and gave it to him and then towed him to the destroyers that rescued them. The sailor survived.

| Bruce told me that they were going to do a reenactment for a film and they wanted him to be a part of it, on the ship, that's what he told me last year at the Banx , thought I would take a picture of the ship and give it to him for his Office. |

That effort that you put out, while it may have seemed nice and simple to you, will make a Veteran's day every time. as a Vet myself, I thank you for what you did for Bruce. It will probably bring a tear to his eye and will be a cherished item. _________________ He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. Well I felt like I wanted to get a couple better pictures , so i drove back to the park this morning , after getting asked if I had permission which I did not , but i fibbed , I got some more pictures.
So as I am looking around I see the other ship the Sullivan's so i called Winnie at 10:30 am eastern time and got in touch or woke her up , she said" the store was not open" But I explained what I was doing; she confirmed I had the right ship this time , and my story was correct.
So I told her this was a surprise for Bruce to give to him at Manx on the Banx and not to tell him. .
I would have been real embarrassed if I had given him a picture of the
WRONG SHIP ! |

"Just how much 'permission' does the legal owner need?" would have been my response to that fool's question! _________________ He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. Luke 22:36

OK, That makes more sense. If you want to read an article about Bruce's experiences in the Navy (not merchant marine) on the Bunker Hill, there's one in the Fall 2011 issue of the Manx Mania. http://manxclub.com/newsletter.htm BTW, navel and naval have very different meanings

I'm pretty sure the person who asked the question (who is probably a volunteer docent and a Navy veteran) wanted to know if Frizzard had permission to have his buggy parked in the pedestrian area that close to the ship. For both safety and security reasons, its a very reasonable question now days.
I know if you tried to drive on the flightline and park beside one of the static display aircraft at my last base, you'd find yourself spread eagled on the ground by the SPs with a rifle pointed at your head. |

Also note that the buggy's color is Shamrock Green...looks perfect in the shot with the clover leaf on the ship! _________________ Humble Pie, it might be good for you, but it always tastes like sh!t

This is cool.
I'm sure BL3Manx is right...any permissions would have been for access to that area with a car rather than for taking pictures once you got there. I've some experience with these rules, which are different for active and inactive Navy vessels and also are contingent on whether or not the moorage or shooting location is on civilian or Navy property. |

Also had him sign a Nos ABS dash for my next build |
