So
I'm working on my rear hatch , doing some sound and heat proofing.
I've added a power lock...but I keep looking at all that space and thinking maybe..I need to add lighting and a pulldown handle and a inside release for the lock...and maybe some storage, for midnight excursions, and breakdown neccessities....pull some extra wire...maybe some battery powered LED lights,...firstaid kit?...like the Xterra, or?
Has anyone done any of this?..I'd like to see some pics/ideas
thanks for any ideas |

I've been thinking something similar for the past 3 months but have failed to act aside from removing all the interior panels, which will prove to be a good idea or not (certainly is louder)
The concept was to mount LED lights inside the hatch cavity and cover with removable cutouts of PTFE or acrylic as to diffuse the light and make for a nice overhead worklight when the trunk was open.
this will happen.... soon
meanwhile i'll post photos of the gutted trunk tomorrow why not.
ah the joys of unemploymente |

stock vw powerlock and matching rear hatch lock...rekeyed it to match my keys.
I'm just going to wire it to a switch at the dash....simplify
My other recent thought was to add an interior handle to the hatch, with a latch release...so the hatch can be opened and more easily closed from the inside.
I've found a few good posts covering this...but one thing I've noticed is that the interior release will work even when the latch is locked
....this is not good for kid safety...I can just see the little buggers, falling out the back and cracking a rib on the tow hitch
I'll need to come up with a interior safety lock |
