Just for grins I called a place that is nothing but a car and truck paint stripper here in Sacramento. They have been in business for years around here. Ok, I tell them I have a VW Karmann Ghia and have it stripped of everything, just a shell, doors and hoods off also. Their price just for the body which is off the pan would be in the range of $700
Each door about $90 apiece and hood front and back around $110 each so he was guessing about $1400 to $1500 out the door. Remember I have done all the dismantling and it’s sitting on a rolling dolly so all they need to do is blast away and he said probable a one day job in and out. Yes he has full blast rooms and has to pay workers and rent but not from me so that’s the reason I have a 40lb sandblaster use my 5hp 60gal air compressor and spend $5 per bag of #30 sand. Yes I use a respirator and blast it outside away from house and people and water down the areas after blasting to keep the dust at bay. So it’s not going to be cheap, and the more they have to do the more they will charge. The more you can do the more you will save. I think this is explaining why were starting to see a lot of $20,000 price tags for VW restorations. The restores are trying to recoup all that money they spent having someone else restoration their pride and joy.
Good lucky in your quest for reasonable prices. _________________ 4ghias |
