The car was given to Adolf Hitler as a present in 1938. Crazy, becaus Mr. Hitlter didn't had a driving licence! In the 1950s, the car was found by a mechanic of the MAHAG of Munich, who was wondered about the loovers in the rear. Since the mid 1950s, the car is a part of the official Volkswagen collection. The car is a nice project for a restauration. It was built by Porsche of Stuttgart.

He would also need the ability to drive, which he didn't have.

Too bad, for if he had been out having fun driving his bug he probably wouldn't have had time to invade Poland.

Did any of the type 60 prototypes survive? Those would be older than the KdF production vehicles

Does anyone know who had vw #3 before it went to the VW museum? I was in communication a fellow who claimed he had found it in a junkyard in Austria.

is that just the chassis, not complete with the body, right? If so it's possibly the oldest VW part, but w/o the body I wouldn't consider it as the oldest vw car, but that's my opinion. Still very impressive to have nonetheless

There is a picture in one of the VW "coffee table books" that shows the VW factory after the war being inspected by British troops.
It clearly shows a VW30 in the rubble.
The caption to the photo also supports this.
So they were not all destroyed.
You have to admit, a sledge hammer to destroy a car ?(photo in earlier post)
I will post a scan as soon as I can find the picture.
