I've been on thesamba for awhile, and I've owned my Beetle since October, so figured I might as well make a "first" post. My family's been a VW family for years...my dad had a 68/69 pieced together Beetle and then a 74 Super. He worked at the Westmoreland plant, and since that time, with my mom, owned 2 Rabbits, a Rabbit Pickup, 2 mk2 Jettas, a '86 (wasserboxer) Vanagon, a '93 Eurovan, 3 B5 Passats, 2 mk4 Jettas, a mk5 Jetta and a mk6 Jetta (as of yesterday!). Needless to say, I was brainwashed at an early age, and always wanted an aircooled Beetle growing up. I went to numerous VW shows as a kid (looking back at it, I am super grateful to my dad for putting on all those miles!), and I collected a large tupperware box full of misc. VW parts.
Fast forward a decade or so. Today, I own a '11 Golf TDI, which is the daily, but this is my newest pride and joy:
A 1963 Type 1 Deluxe Sedan that a previous owner dropped in a AE 1600cc DP. I actually found it here from thesamba...it was less than 5 miles from my house! It's an incomplete car, but the body is rock solid. Heater channels intact! I'll let the photos speak for themselves:
For now, I'm working on replacing all of the missing trim/making things period correct (I have a whiteboard full of things to do, repaint steering wheel, get correct door cards, etc. - I've already re-added the grab handle, assist handles, sunvisors, etc.), as well as a few technical things (move fuel filter out of engine, re-add turn signals on top of front fenders, the voltage issue from my other thread, etc.). I do realize the significance of my license plate, by the way It's slowly coming together, but I'm just ecstatic that I've finally acheived the goal of aircooled ownership. |

Congrats on your purchase looks like it is going to be a really nice car. My 69 has a 1600 TP as well and drives really well, at least until i eventually put in a new 1916.
Look forward to seeing your progress |
