Did Barndoors and beetles of the same year use the same Semaphores, if not did different years of Barndoors have different semaphores or did all years use the same?
I am looking for 53 BD semaphores but want to be sure to get the correct ones and lens

Ronnie, it depends whether your 53 is an early or later 53? As far as smooth or ribbed semr-fours go. Earlier ones have the orange lenses, later ones have the yellow ones. But for the most part, you can use them on either bus or beetle. (not convertible semi fours) Lenses is a bit tricky, as far as what year had what? Or the transitions.

From here on, I will leave it to non other then Professor Lind-O-Calrisian of the Institute of Modern Westies. Please elaborate...educate us!!

and Hella lenses in orange with the nr. K 2618.

My 5/53 T24S and 6/53 T26A use SHO semaphores with orange, smooth lenses. I think <3/53 used grooved arms and ribbed lenses.

Hi, folks. I'm trying to determine which semaphores are correct for a 54/55 single cab truck (not positive on year) They definitely seem to be smooth and not ribbed, but I've seen both orange and yellow/amber lenses available. Then I learned there seem to be two different manufacturers (SHO, SWF???) Can someone post or provide a link to pictures showing these two types and is there any way to know what color is correct? The existing lenses are fairly deteriorated, but if I had to guess, the color seems much more orange than yellow/amber. Thanks a million!

Clara's June '53 standard has ribbed semaphores as well. I think the parts list shows the change in Dec. '53?

My June '53 kombi has SWF ribbed semaphores, original to the bus. Not sure about the lens color, as the lenses were gone when I got the bus.

Thanks Keith... my non-ribbed items must have been replacements on the early 53's. Swell is picking up again later this week over here; how is it there? RC

So has it been said definitively yet whether bug and bus semaphores are functionally and size-wise interchangeable? I need function for my '54 before I worry about correctness.
Thanks!

im no expert on semaphores and i dont know if its already been said but as far as i know later bus semaphores use a beetle '111' part number according to the bus parts book. earlier ones have 'AL' but again, im not positive on chassis cutoffs or if there is any rhyme or reason to any of it.
and as far as my experience goes, any semaphores that i have used have all been interchangable and fit fine one bus to the next even though they may look slightly different build wise.

As far as I know, the sizes are the same, except for early Beetle Convertibles with their "boxed" semaphores.
