is this chip in the trany bellhousing near the starter shaft a problem?
currently running a 6v starter in this 12v bellhousing with the correct 6-12 bushing. Plan on going with 12v starter next, but would like to know if this chip is a problem?

That's fine, the bushing is supporting the starter. _________________ Glenn

Bushing is too far to the rear (FIF). See if you can tap it forward so it will have more surface area of the bushing supporting the starter shaft, and thusly the bushing will last longer.
Additionally once the bushing is forward where it belongs it can be removed with the special tool designed to be used with engine in situ.

Also good to put a drop or two of oil on the bushing when the engine is out. Bushing is made of a porous bronze that will soak up the oil, and when the starter is turning causing friction/heat the oil seeps back out to lubricate it from wearing out too soon. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
