Does anyone know if the "computer" is needed for the electronic distributor to work. My distributor currently has points and I would like to replace it with the stock pointless distributor.
Thanks

Wellllll, the engine is actually an 86 GTI w/ Holley 2bbl in a 65 Baja Bug. The Distributor is out of an early Sciracco. The Electronic setup I have is from an 87 "donor" Jetta.

Can you say FRANKENSTEIN??!
I don't know what to tell you, bud. Try puttin the dizzy in and see what happens?
The 86 gti has a 1.8 8 valve motor, but which motor did the dizzy come off of in the Jetta? Was it the 8 valve or 16 valve?
What posessed you to make this conglomeration, anyway?

Actually that is its name, FrankenBug. The Jetta has an 8 valve, a 16v wont fit. I was finally able to track down a mechanic that told me which wires go where, it shouldnt be a problem. HHMMM, what possessed me? The quest for something different and warm in the wintertime. Plus the cost, to put an aircooled 1800cc engine would have been about 1500 or more and without heat. This whole setup only cost 550, w/ heat.
