We are currently restoring a 63 Twin Cab for a Client here in Australia. The TC was TKD and painted Gulf Blue, using BALM paints code 1/3/503. I need to be able to paint the Rims and Hub caps in the right colours. I cannot find any samples here in Oz that can be trusted. I obtained Pressure packs from WWest but when sprayed out they are not what I expected. can anybody help with a sample big enough for me to use a Spectometer (sp) so that I can get the colours mixed here?
Regards Jerry

L345 light grey is easy. I have a sample that has never seen sunlight. I can get it scanned or send you a section of it to get matched.
L82 silverwhite is not easy. As for original paint pieces, it is bumpers, wheels and front emblems, which all get a lot of weather and light. I have multiple spare wheels with original tires that have had little or no use, and they don't match each other, and they don't have a big flat area to scan. There are original paint sample books, but the one I have does not have L82 in it. I borrowed a sample from a friend, and had my paint guy try to match it, and he came somewhat close, but not nearly good enough. The original silverwhite is darker than people expect. _________________ .

fwiw, I have a of paint light grey 62 and the WW west spray can is nowhere close to matching. It’s much more dark and richer than the original paint. |

Thanks Lind, I appreciate the the offer - please let me know how much for your time and postage. So what did you end up doing for Silver White if not good enough is not good enough? |

Hey Lind- If you are offering up L345 samples, please add me to the list. I am happy to compensate you for your time and effort. I can vouch that the L345 rattle can "match" that WW sells is far from perfect. |

I am still trying to find someone to match the silverwhite. I gave up on my local paint guy and sent the sample back to my friend. I have another friend with a sample, but he won't lend it out. I will work on him to get it matched. I don't have anything currently needing paint, but I want to be prepared when I do.

I can send you a section of the metal. It is from a westfalia where they use a piece of metal for the support for a seat bracket. They used scraps of metal from the roof that was left over from when they cut the hatches in. Then they put it behind a wood panel where it lived out of the sunlight, just waiting to be used to match paint. _________________ .

I had my local "English Color" paint store mix up their formula for L82 silver white and put it in an aerosol can for about $30. Just barely painted the faces of 4 wheels.
And the color is perfect.
Perfect because nobody has a leg to stand on should they want to argue it's not the correct color.
See how easy that works? _________________ Never argue with an Idiot. They'll only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. |

L82 Silver White from the 1960 color book in the tech archives, I assume Everett owns it?

I just use Krylon Dover White for the silver white parts. If you are doing them all at the same time, you can't tell the difference from OG. If you hold the bumper up to an original wheel, it will be slightly off, but normally the bumpers are separated from the wheels, and the wheels are separated from each other.
The Krylon Dover White is a tad yellower than the L82 paint chip books, but aged silver white parts are often yellower as well, so there you go. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

Here is a scanned image of the VW paint book from the technical section of L82 Silver White
And here is an internet page of Krylon Dover White:
The Dover White does not appear this dark when held up to OG Silver White, matching colors on the internet is a fool's errand. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS
