Clean and re-line the fuel tank? At least pull the bulkhead cover and check and/or replace the rubber hoses.
While I had mine out, I also made a fuel sender access hatch. Very handy.
"Mars" did you mean clutch throw-out bearing or something else? _________________ “To find yourself, think for yourself”

If it is in a shop anyway, have them check the crankshaft endplay to ensure it is within spec and inspect the front oil crankshaft seal for any leakage. |

Injector seals, clutch and accelerator cables, replace fuel lines, inspect, clean, and seal fuel tank, clean and paint engine compartment, new foam seal, new fuel sender if necessary, new temp sensor II.....I can't beleive Randy didn't suggest that one!! |

yes, clean the engine compartment. it's a lot easier to do with the engine out. _________________ ----------

I meant the pilot bearing or whatever it's called- the bearing in the end of the crank. _________________ 1971 Westy

Pull the oil pump and replace the oil ring inside it, also check that the idler shaft in the pump has not worked out and is hitting the cam, if you see any problem with the Type 4 pump you might concider replacing it with a high volume Type 1 pump, you can get them premodified to fit your engine from the Type 4 Store. A new dipstick tube boot should be high on the list as well. Check all clutch parts for wear especially look for broken springs in the disc. I would have them check the rubber mounts on the moustache bar for seperation/cracking. Have them inspect the brushes in your alternator if it has high miles since its last replacement as it is a pain to remove with the engine in. I would have them peen over the oil galley plugs behind the flywheel if they are still the original pressed in ones, lossing one of these can ruin your whole week.
Be sure that it is your oil cooler seals that are leaking and not your oil pressure sending unit. The oil senders are notorious for leaking.
If I were doing the work myself and didn't have to pay I would also be doing the pushrod tube seals as well.
Let us know how many spark plugs are laying on top of your cylinders. I bet two. |
