I need to replace the floor pans in my 70 Ghia. After doing some digging (literally) I found that sheet metal has been riveted on top of the original pans. I doubt that this technique did much more than cover the holes, structurally speaking. I am wondering, how difficult replacing the pans will be, are the pans welded to the center tunnel and does the body have to come off to replace the pans? Thanks in advance for any help.

Any good body welder could do it for you.Your body doesn't need to be removed.I have an issue of Hot VWs that was a a special edition that covered this and many other common fix it stuff. It was one of the best issues I ever purchased. I think it was maybe Feb/march this year. You might look for it with there back issue offerings.

If you're even thinking about doing pans, buy the Bug-Me video. It shows a bug, but the procedures are the same for a Ghia.
