It's a pan...the inside is covered with carpet and the outside is covered in dirt, Unless you are going to make it a show car does it really matter? Black is black.
Just my opinion.....Spend the dough on the body paint!! _________________ Invest is Precious Metal

*Do semi gloss..
*DO NOT DO GLOSS BLACK - Why? it will look way too (ridiculously) glossy and you'll regret it.

again, Like Bill said, If you are building a 100 point car, 70% gloss paint is the only pan covering that you will not lose points on |

But if you're not building a 100 point car, powdercoating is fine _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

Hello-
I know I'm a little off topic here, but my pans are in so-so shape and I'm wondering how much effort I should put into saving the original pans. I don't plan on making my car a show car, but I would like to keep it looking as original as I can.
Thanks.

What do you consider "so-so"? If it only has tiny holes, patch them up. If the battery section is rusted, cut it out & replace. If the halves need replacing, well...... _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

Yes, it should be the same. 70% gloss is not too shiney, yet not too matte either _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

Actually, i believe that engine tin is 90% gloss, (no kidding)
It is also applied very thin, and with no primer. If I recall the tin was painted in lacquer, not enamel. Not that it matters, since you cant buy any of the old paint formulations. Powder coating looks to thick on engine tin if you are trying for bone stock. Try a rattle can black, let it get dry for at least a week or two, then knock back the gloss with chrome polish. _________________ https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/56ghia/cover.jpg |
