We all like seeing the old VWs. But most of us resent their lack of real support for the cars and owners, while playing on our heartstrings.
This is a very inward-looking ad. Successful advertising looks outward. Despite their posted text in the ad, this car needs to stand on its own in the marketplace. Reviews of that potential are mixed at best.
I hope they succeed regardless.

Around 25 years ago it was a different scene with VW. I can remember businesses receiving cease and desist letters, products being taken off the shelfs and spy's looking for merchandise at shows and swap meets.
