I saw this car on the TV show and fell in love! So now I'm trying to track one down...
Here are the leads i have so far...
1983 Volkswagen Rabbit Wolfsburg Ed. (convertible)
or
1989 Volkswagen Cabriolet Wolfsburg

Do you know what the difference is between the 2 headlight vs, the 4??

VW never made that combo from the factory. The grill and 2 headlight setup is the earlier type, and the bumpers and side skirts are 1988+ style. If you like that look, either get an early cabriolet, and put the late bumpers and skirts on, or a later one, and put the early grill on the front.

It is not a 1989; all Cabriolets from 1989 onward did not have chrome (actually aluminum) around the windshield and side windows.

The car in question is either a 1988 that has undergone a paint and grille change, or it's a 1980-1987 that has had the 1988-1993 Clipper kit (minus the spoiler) added in addition to a paint change. Given the painted wrecked core support and damaged grille, I would surmise it is the latter (Clipper kit could've been pulled from an '89 WE and the car painted Star Blue to match it). Also, it's had the side-markers deleted.

What made you come up with 1983 Rabbit Wolfsburg Edition? If the car used in "Prison Break" was an '83 WE, it has undergone an extreme makeover. The 1983 Rabbit Convertible WE was triple-white only.

Looks like a beater to me, old VWs pick up newer parts as they age.
Get the VIN and input it into a on line VIN decoder, and you'll find out all you need to know.
