Good morning, I'm just beginning to start tweaking my '67 bug...and I'd like to see what I can do to shorten the amount of travel of my shifter.

The current shifter I have is a 4spd ....and really tall and thin....but it seems like the throws are waaaay long..... without putting in a short shifter (which would have me grabbing the floorboard, lol) is there anything else I can do to make the pattern closer???

Brian

You can a quick shifter kit and still use your stock shifter.

personally, this is the best I have used so-far....I love my Hurst shifter (although, the one in my car has the chrome peeling)

Another option would be to install a Type 2 shifter base. It's taller than a Type 1 base & will give you a higher fulcrum point much the same way the quick shift kit ($5) does. And it'll look more stealth.

Scat Dragfast.......Click, click, click, click. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th. Really short throw......not on the floor either. Takes some getting used to though. I liked my stock shifter with the quick shift kit in it also.....it made a big difference! Can't beat it for the $$$.

Mine does not use the stock shifter plate. Check the coupler between the shift rod and hockey stick into the trans. If it is worn, it could cause the same symptoms.

If you're budget will allow it, fit a Gene Berg shifter.
