Hello all, I am a car enthusiast and decent mechanic, and am very active on similar boards for the various cars I own, but i know nothing whatsoever about old VW's. I posted on another forum

what do you all think of this car? Obviously I would do a PPI, but curious if any experts on this board know the car, or can comment on its presentation?

https://www.oldbug.com/histeve67.htm

Thank you all,

Geno

Geno, Randy Carlson who runs Oldbug.com is known for being pretty thorough in the cars he consigns. This convertible seems to be no exception
Having looked at the photos I see some definite replacement items but nothing major that is very concerning. The biggest expense would be finding the correct original bumpers in the same condition as the rest of the car. Both front and rear are incorrect and would probably run over a grand to have replaced with correct one year only '67 units.

The only other thing I'd look into is if the engine matches the chassis. Yes it is a correct HO engine block but is it the one that left the factory with that chassis?

I have a '67 convertible and there's no way that you can build a '67 vert this nice for the price. Most of the major issues (Like the convertible top) and chassis are well sorted.

Good luck and hopefully welcome to the '67 club.

jos

Just in the photos I see the following items... None of which would keep me away from the car. They're just the difference between concourse and show condition.

I really like this car and I think it's a great price for what it is. Look at the Hagerty price guid on '67 convertibles and I think you'll agree. There are a lot more correct items on this car than incorrect but heres what I see right off the bat.

1. As stated, the blue coil is a common replacement coil. It should be a short 12v coil (1 year only).

2. Fuel pump should be a square top Piersburg. Nothing wrong with this one.

3. The Chick Iverson frame is a repop $30 frame. If it were real it's a $400 frame Smile

4. Incorrect knobs for a '67 Blaupunkt radio. Not sure which model it is. It looks like a '68 Blaupunkt Manhattan. Either way it's not a big deal. It's nice that it has both AM/FM and the Long wave band.

5. The mirror although "proper shape" is a reproduction mirror as far as I can tell. It should have a lip all the way around the back side.

6. Front wheels are 11 hole (Incorrect) and the rear wheels are 10 hole '66/67 wheels.

7. Door Panels are reproduction. Not bad just not original.

8. Both Bumpers are aftermarket. They look shiny though Smile

9. Seat belts are modern replacement seat belts. That's a plus or a minus depending on who you ask.

As pointed out by Jos.Hall, this is a very fine example of a 1967 convertible with a few minor details that are easily corrected. None of which are really convertible specific, but more so 1967 specific. The "1967 convertible" part of this car is actually extraordinary! The detractors (if you can consider them so) are additionally the things that make the 1967 purist crowd cringe a little in a car this nicely done. Again, nit picking the minor things -

1. incorrect generator along with that fuel pump
2. incorrect air cleaner decal
3. black running board rubbers and fender beading instead of beige for Savanna Beige paint
4. as pointed out by Jos.Hall, aftermarket door panels. Also seat covers, but done about as good as it gets for aftermarket covers. Rear seat heat seams incorrect. Absolutely NOBODY in the aftermarket seat cover world gets this detail right for a 1967 convertible!!!
5. It's the aluminum trim rings, not the actual wheels that are mis-matched in the pics of this car. Wheels should be black painted slotted, not two tone, with 10 hole bright aluminum trim rings.

1967 convertibles this nice are very rarely seen.

sledge4.2 - if you haven't done so already it might be a good idea to scrounge a ride in a vw just to make sure it's the car for you.
