Your problem is most likely is your rods. Get the rods resized and the rod bolts replaced and you should be okay with the stock pump. |

I found that a bigger oil pump doesn't give much of a boost when you're having low pressure at high temps. It mainly redlines your cold pressure, because ultimately a bigger pump is about higher volume, not higher pressure. If the relief valve is doing its job, much of the extra volume is just dumped back to the sump by the relief valve. When you wanted the most to increase pressure, while the motor is hot, was when it gave the least benefit.
What did work, and I highly recommend if you just want to help an engine along that you plan on rebuilding soon, a little short-term insurance policy, is to add a 1.5mm thick or so 3/8" washer under the relief valve spring. For about ten minutes and ten cents (not me, the washer!), you'll have better results than putting in the 30mm pump. About 8-10psi at hot cruising. |
