I'm not sure if this is the right forum for a "stock" wheel question so i apologize in advance if it isn't. I have a 56 oval that I'm going to buy a set of stock wide 5 rims for. My question is, are all the wide 5 rims the same width and offset through all the different years?

All bugs came with 15" wheels. I think it was only the buses and things that came with 14's. I could be wrong but I think ghia and type 3 wheels are the same as the beetles. Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong! I don't want to give incorrect advise. In '66 they went to a vented wheel with a hubcap that mounts directly to the wheel, not to clips like '65 and earlier. Wheels are also stamped with a date on the backside. By this you can get wheels as close to your year as desired.

Type 3 smoothies are different than bug smoothies.

They used the flat hubcaps like you see on the 66-67 bugs so they dont have clips, they have the bumps that seat the hubcaps like a 66-67 slotted bug rim but yet they are smoothies.

Type 3 wheels have a deeper offset than T1 wheels -- they don't make the T3 wheels anymore either --- all the 'stock' wheels you see for sale at CIP1, jbugs, etc, are T1 offset wheels....

they will work on a T3, but only with a narrow tire....
