Hi Claus;
Try a marine shop that has been in business for a while. Some of them used to carry these, since they were also used in boats.

Hi Claus,
Check out their website here:
http://www.whalepumps.com/caravan_RV/
On the left side is a link for distributors of their products, maybe you could email and check with them.
Here is a shot of my Whale sink pump, I haven't tried it yet to see if it works:
Does yours have this little sticker on it? Maybe somebody just stuck it there for fun.
Good luck,
Paul |

Hi Paul,
thanks for the link. The sticker is original! I have the same one on my pump.
Bye

In case it helps, this came with one of my Westys:
I contacted Whale about one year ago. They told me that they didn't have any parts left for those old models. They are mostly into electric pumps these days. However, they still were offering a basic hand pump model, perhaps the seals/gaskets are close enough? He said that he was going to send me an old Whale pump that he had sitting around, but never did...This thread reminded me about that, I better follow up!

If that is the same pump Dormobile used (pretty sure it is) they still had stock on those when I last checked. Give them a try. _________________ "Love and good roads" |

Just checked - in the 2005 DORMOBILE catalog it lists:
WHALE pump and tap - found in early split window Dormobile conversions with rear kitchen layout. These were fitted on top of the sink unit. - 42.50 (that's sterling or GBP).
Their number is +44 (0) 1794 830831 or e-mail [email protected] _________________ "Love and good roads" |

Whale is the brand name of Munster Simms Engineering in Northern Ireland, of which I recently provided a scan of a 1989 catalogue
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/1989_whale_water_system.php
There are other styles of Whale hand-operated pumps in the 1985 Bilge & Galley Pump catalogue, of which I shall soon be submitting scans to The Samba Archive. _________________ Regards.

Here's a Whale Flipper Pump, substituted on a 1973 VW Type 2 Westfalia Continental, in place of the original American-made, hand-operated reciprocating pump.
A useful, neat, foot-operated freshwater pump for motor-caravans & trailer-caravans, is the Whale Tiptoe pump, which features in my 1985 Whale Bilge & Galley Pumps brochure.

Whale Service kits can still be found - search on eBay.
As they were a UK (ish) company, often the UK eBay comes up trumps. Often sold as old obsolete stock from Hardware shops, or old Chandlers/Boat Yards etc
This Angled Whale Tap, was also fitted to a lot of UK produced VW Campers (Devons, Dormobiles etc etc) and Boats from the 60's and it requires Whale Service Kit SK0103 to repair.
These SK0103 kits are becoming tricky to find now, although I managed to fix mine by purchasing a similar vintage Whale Service Kit SK0219 for a Low Profile Pump Mk1 and II, as I noticed this kit contained some of the same parts (but not all).
The important seal you need is the rubber 'cup washer' seal that goes on the bottom of the main pump shaft - it looks very much like a brake wheel cylinder seal, both SK0103 and SK0219 contain this seal. (E653-15). This is the main seal that does most of the work lifting the water, and seals the moving pump shaft to the body.
One of the pics below shows the 'check ball' and the rubber cup seal removed from the bottom of the main pump shaft - I strongly recommend you do not attempt to unscrew this part, and just replace the seal by stretching it over and into the recess, as these almost never come undone (alloy corrosion!) and you will destroy your vintage pump if you try too hard!
Hope some of this info helps :thumb:

The 1989 Whale Water Systems price list, gives details of several pump service kits, including the one (SK0103) for the hand-operated Whale Angled Freshwater Pumps (Mk.2 ~ Mk.4).
