Found a '71 Super Auto Stick (mnfct date 11/70) for $800. Inside good condition, floor solid, runs and drives well - front hood & fenders damaged and rusted from deer collision, wheels not original, some other rust. Is this a good deal? My first bug in a long time. Thanks in advance for the feedback. |

Well I just paid 1200$ for my 71 super and it didnt even run "just needed a new ignition switch" and it has very little rust some dings here and there the interior is shot needs minor engine maintanance. Do you plan on doing the body work yourself? Figure putting 1500$ or so depending on how much body work it needs. I say go for it. Almost anything that runs is worth that much. Good luck. |

As long as you are happy with the Auto stick, go for it... Where area you at (I am in Houston TX area) I have some front fenders and a hood, (they are 71-72 only) |

You know, people turn their noses up at the Auto Stick but I bet you in time they are going to be valuable for their rarity and uniqueness. Like the old Chryslers with the push button transmissions. |

Thanks for the comments. Picked it up on last Friday for $800.
Spent the weekend tuning and cleaning - plugs, wires, rotor, cap, points. It is detonating on decceleration, I think the timing needs to be set. Interior in very good shape (cleaned up well), paint not bad, front fenders, bumper and boot lid need to be replaced - dented and major rust above headlamps.
The Autostick is interesting. Any comments on its durability/reliability? |

Autosticks don't take kindly to too much modification engine wise for several reasons... one being the vacume it takes to make the servo operate properly...
As you will notice... you don't go around with your hand on or gripping the shifter like you do on a standard tranny... the electric points on the shifter mechanism will cause the servo to be kickin the clutch in and out! Kinda sucks as you loose that "feel" that people like from driving a standard...
They hold together pretty good if driven properly... spelled G R A N D M A.....LOL!
Seriously they are okay if your happy with the way it runs and drives, you do have to kinda be gentle with them...
They are a pain when it comes to pulling the engine... (compared to a regular set up)
4 hard to get too and to remove(awkward) special bolts hold the torque converter to the driveplate...
like if you have a rear seal leak or the clutch disc... (they have a 180mm disc in them) goes out!...
Haynes has a pretty decent chapter in their repair manual... I would get one and read up on it....
Good luck, you can always convert it to a 4 sp tranny! done plenty of that swap! |
