It's as easy to get to the starter in 74 as almost any other bug. Jack up the rear of the car, and look at where it bolts to the tranny at the passenger side. It's a piece of cake, just remember to replace the wires correctly.
The ignition cylinder/lock/key is also pretty straight forward, and comes out easily. Are you missing the complete assembly? I thought my cylinder was bad also, but it turned out to be the separate electrical piece in the back of the cylider that was the problem.
A manual (Bentley or Haynes) explains both procedures pretty clearly. If you can't find one, lemme know via e-mail and I'll scan the pages and send them to you. It's much easier to follow the pictures for ignition than it is to explain it. |

I like Wolfsburg West. They have a nice web site and their parts are nice quality. Nice catalog, too. www.wolfsburgwest.com. I tried Chirco and I didn't like them because they have a weird backorder policy: they just don't. Not in stock, try again later. But their catalog is pretty good...clear pictures and lots of stuff. J.C.Whitney is cheap and good about taking stuff back but their stuff is not as good quality. OK but maybe not if you're really finicky about your buggy. |
