Hello. I have had the car for quite some time now, but its just been sitting cuz i wasnt able to work on it. I have a job now and plan to restore it. Its really not all bad, my grandma took really good care of it. I was wondering if someone in Arizona,USA could point me in the right direction, mebbe even meet up with me and help me work on it. I have a couple manuals on the car to work on it, but not the experience. And now that i have the 'net i can look up endless instructions on how to fix it, but just reading about it isnt going to get the job done. Thanks for any response to this.

Brian;
Is there something wrong with your Bug or are you just looking for future help?
If you're ever going to work on your Bug, and don't have any yet, get a good set of metric wrenches - combination wrenches and sockets. Good set, not "made in Taiwan" set.
After that, I would post specific questions about specific problems when you face them. There are lot of guys here who can give you some great answers (I'll just deal with the very simple ones...).
Hope that answers your question.

Yeah.. For now.. My parents told me the Electrical Harness (?) is bad. My Dad is goin to help me work on it, but i just have no clue on what i should do for this. I think i need to replace the harness. Also, Where can i look for interior? I want to get new seats, front and back, and the ceiling floors redone. Thanks so much again.

Brian;
I doubt that you need to replace the whole wiring harness. It's more likely that there are a few wires messed up and possibly some fuses.
You can get parts for these Bugs in a lot of places. One good supplier is Rocky Mountain Motorworks. Actually, pick up a Hot VW's Magazine at a bookstore somewhere and start looking at the parts suppliers. But before you order from somebody, post a message here and see if anybody has had good or bad luck with that particular supplier.
Enjoy the Bug. You'll soon be a goofy little VW addict too.

Brian, I'm also here in the northern Phx area, just post if you need help or parts. I have quite a bit of late model beetle parts and a couple parts cars, but unfortunately no superbeetles anymore. I'd offer to give a hand but I work from morning to nightime 6 days a week and it wouldn't work out real well, but I'm sure you'll do just fine with your dad helpin too. Good luck with your project! |

...my thoughts:
1) Check the wiring around the engine... It can cause a fire REALLY easy.
2) If you've been told you have a wiring problem - you might, but look at each light, head, tail, break, etc..., if they're bright and don't flicker (i.e. going down the road), you probably don't need new.
3) Are any of the fuses blown? You can narrow problems down reasonably well. If you don't which is which, I'll post them here or go to Vintagebus.com - great resource for wiring, bus or not.
4) If your Generator light is not on, when the engine is running you, more than likely, have a good generator, regulator and most of the wiring in the back okay.
5) LASTLY - some advice, check your fuel filter and clamps and the fuel hose(s) around the engine - Get GOOD hose, get GOOD clamps make like new... It's a GREAT place for a fire to start.
Good luck, Rick
