I have a thump noise in the rear when I go over a bump -- it's a 67 bug. I've replaced shocks, put new rubber in the Z bar and it's still there. It sounds like the rear wheel is hitting the wheel well but I dont see any indication of that.
Any ideas from anyone? [/list]

Take off the rear fender and have someone drive over a bump while you watch?

I would inspect the rear body mounts, by the shocks. They have a habit of loosening up. If not that, then take a large prybar and start pulling, pushing, and investigating.

Is the deck lid fastened and tight?

Rear bumper mounts in good shape and bolts tight so the bumper isn't bouncing?

Check the 3 big bolts that hold the spring plate to the axle.

Look close at your shock rubbers.

You don't have a flash light or other lost device rolling around under the rear seat or back in the package tray area?

Thanks for all of your suggestions, I had the rubber in the torsion bars replaced as well.

Inside or outside of the car ? My noise was the bottom of the back seat lifting and crashing down. A buddy of mine had his battery tie down clamp loosen up, banging the battery around on bumps.
