Replaced the generator in my 73 standard, ran fine. Parked it for about a week. Now the generator light comes on, and when I checked the generator, sparks are coming out of the opening where the copper coil and the brush touches it. Wired exactly the way the old one came out and polarized it by grounding the field wire and touching the battery wire to the D+ wire at the rgulator. Any suggestions? |

I have a 73 standard and I'm sure it has an alternator, not generator. The way I've always determined the difference:
Generator right above belt pully.
Alternator is above and to the right of the belt pully. |
