I GOT A AFTER MARKET TACH, THE SHIFT LIGHT DOES NOT WORK IT STAYS ON AT ALL TIMES IS IT BECAUSE I GOT POINTS AND NOT A ELECT. IGN?....

nope. Your shift light has an adjustment knob, right? If the tach is working as it should, but the shift light stays on all the time, than I would assume that it has something to do with the potentiometer that the adjustment knob runs to. Have you tried pulling it apart, and spraying some electrical cleaner on the pot? (the piece that the knob connects to).

Mine would do this occasionally, and if I just moved the knob back and forth a couple of times, it would start working again. Dirty contacts were the culprit. Good luck.

Thanks for the response clay8080 but this is a new tach. do all tach got this potentiometer? had you seen these new tach's they change colors i got it in one of those Fast and Furious Auto Shops here in FL. I took it back and they gave me another one but still the same problem they keep saying that i need to change to elect. ign...and again i feel there full of it.....let me know THANK YOU..

A new tach is doing this? And the replacement tach is doing the same thing? Me thinks something is 'special' about this tach. Did it come with any instructions? Most tachs come with 'jumpers' or 'dip switches' that allow you to change the tach to read 4,6,or 8 cylinders by cutting jumpers, or changing the dip switches. Did you follow those procedures?
Surely it has a wiring schematic. What is the brand name and model of the tach?

HI CLAY8080,,,,IS A INDIGLOW GAUGE FROM SUPER HIGH TECHNOLOGY TYPE R/S MODEL R01-13-2AND IS SET ALREADY TO 4CYL.IT WAS INSTALLED THE RIGHT WAY I EVEN TOOK IT TO A PLACE AND THEY SAID THE CONNECTIONS ARE GOOD IM GOING CRAZY I HATE TAKING IT BACK BECAUSE IS HOOK UP TO THE TOP LEFT CORNER AND I MADE 2 HOLES IT LOOKS PRETTY COOL, MAYBE I WILL JUST ELIMINATE THE SHIFT LIGHT THEN....

ACTUALLY IS ON THE TOP LEFT CORNER OF MY HEADLINER (TOP LEFT WINDSHIELD I DRILLED TWO HOLES TO MY HEADLINER).....
